WAITING
CHILDREN
|
(formerly the INS) In order to be able to bring your adopted child back to the United States, you must make application to the BCIS. You will need to submit Form I-600A to your nearest BCIS regional office. You can order Form I-600A packet from their voice message phone line at 1-800-870-FORM, or you can download the form on the BCIS WEBSITE. You will need to submit the peach colored Form I-600A along with all documents requested on the form, and the $545 application fee and $70 fingerprinting fee per person living in your home over 18 years of age. Your home study does not have to be submitted at the same time. Your social worker will forward the home study to the BCIS when it is completed. When your home study is received by the BCIS office, they will investigate the file and issue your approval - FORM I-171-H. This form letter document is usually the last document included in your dossier. You will need Form I-600 to take
with you when you travel to pick up your child. This form is usually
completed at the US Embassy. You will also need to take with you
copies of your last 3 years tax returns, including all schedules and W-2s.
Be sure to make copies, because these will not be returned to you.
Other documents needed for the child's visa will be your Employment letter
and a copy of your homestudy, but this depends on the different country
you are adopting from.
